Conference 'National Challange Local Solutions'

The conference National Challenge – Local Solutions was held on Wednesday 20 October 2021 to share and promote the results of the project Integrated Solid Waste Management in Berat Region. The meeting, held in Mak Albania Hotel, Tirana, gathered together representatives of central and local government authorities, programme implementers, the donor community, and representatives from the private sector and civil society.

Integrated Solid Waste Management in Berat Region has since 2018 been supported by the Swiss Confederation through SECO, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and the municipalities of Berat County.

Swiss Ambassador Mr Adrian Maître and German Ambassador Mr Peter Zingraf once again provided key messages in support of resource management in Albania.

During the first panel, Minister of Environment and Tourism Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Mr Ilir Bejtja framed the national policy issues currently being addressed as well as those to be dealt with in the near future. In the second panel, the mayors of Berat County spoke on the approach being taken on local policies and presented succinctly the project results from the perspectives of municipal leadership, council and staff, as well as the regional council.
